What does this fault code mean?
The glow plug lamp is handled by the ECM over CAN communication with the instrument cluster, the Driver's Information Module (DIM). Although the code is named as a heater indicator circuit fault, it applies to the signal to the lamp in the instrument cluster. The fault concerns a short circuit to ground.
Possible causes
- Fault in the CAN network
- Fault in the instrument cluster (DIM)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, switch on the ignition and read the fault status. 'No fault found' means the fault is not active right now.
- 2Check that the fuses are intact.
- 3Switch on the ignition and look at the glow plug lamp in the instrument panel. Check whether it behaves as normal.
- 4Read ECM-P038112, ECM-P038113 and ECM-P038119 with the diagnostic tool as well, since they may be related to this code.
- 5Check that the connectors in the CAN network have no chafing or loose connections.
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop trace the fault in the CAN network and the instrument cluster (DIM).
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The glow plug lamp is switched off
