System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) continuously monitors exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and sets the fault when the flow through the system is too high. Although the code is named as insufficient flow, it therefore applies to excessive flow.
Possible causes
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the EGR valve can be fully closed and opened without sticking; dirt and soot can make it stick and set this fault
- 2Check that the EGR valve is not damaged
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the EGR valve position at idle and when throttle is applied, and check that the value changes
- 4Read and clear the fault code, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 5After the EGR valve has been replaced or repaired, a workshop needs to carry out an adaption of it
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
