What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns the control circuit for EGR A. The ECM checks the signal from its internal power stage to the EGR motor and sets the fault when that signal is wrong.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status for the code
- 2Activate the EGR valve with the diagnostic tool and listen for a clicking sound from the valve
- 3During activation the position sensor value should change; if it does not, the position sensor or the wiring is suspect
- 4Check the connectors to the EGR valve for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot if it is sticking, and check that it is not blocked
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EGR valve
