What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns the EGR A control circuit, where the ECM drives the EGR valve with a PWM signal. It is set when the signal is too high or too low, when the temperature is too high, or when the airflow does not match.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Sticking EGR valve
- Damaged position sensor or damaged EGR valve
- Component or system overheated
- Short circuit to ground or supply voltage in the signal cable
- Damaged mass air flow sensor (MAF)
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status for the code
- 2Check that the EGR valve moves freely, both when it closes and when it opens
- 3Check that the connectors to the EGR valve are secure and not oxidised
- 4Measure with a multimeter that the signal cable has no contact with ground or supply voltage
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the EGR valve position at idle and when throttle is applied
- 6After a repair or replacement, a workshop needs to carry out an adaption of the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice3
- The engine feels weaker and lacks power
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly on acceleration or when slowing down
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- EGR control is lost
