What does this fault code mean?
The code states that the signal is too low, but the condition for setting it is that the flow through the EGR system is too high. The ECM monitors the EGR function and can show the fault while the engine runs.
Possible causes
- Sticking EGR valve
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the EGR valve moves freely and is not sticking
- 2Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot if it is clogged
- 3Inspect the O-ring and gasket on the EGR valve for damage
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and listen for a ticking sound
- 5Read and clear the fault code, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EGR valve
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine performs worse than usual
- The idle is uneven
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
