What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as a too-high signal, the condition is a flow that is too low in the EGR system. The ECM monitors the EGR function and sets the fault when the flow is too low. The cause may be an air leak, or a blocked or damaged EGR valve.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
- Blocked or clogged EGR valve
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check the intake system for air leaks, such as loose hoses and connections
- 2Check that the EGR valve or its connections are not clogged with soot
- 3Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot if needed
- 4Look for damage to the seals of the EGR valve
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the EGR valve position at idle and see that it changes under throttle
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EGR valve and the intake system
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine performs worse than usual
- The idle is uneven
