What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns the signal from the EGR valve position sensor. The ECM monitors the sensor signal and sets the fault when it is too low or when the PWM signal is incorrect. The fault can lie in the sensor, the valve or the wiring between them.
Possible causes
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the wiring to the EGR valve or position sensor
- Damaged position sensor or damaged EGR valve
- EGR valve sticks, for example from dirt or soot
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and read the fault status with a diagnostic tool, if you have one
- 2Inspect the intake system for leaks and damage
- 3Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot if it is clogged
- 4Use a multimeter to check the wiring to the EGR valve and the position sensor for open circuits and short circuits to ground
- 5Check that the connectors at the EGR valve and the position sensor are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop trace the position sensor and the EGR valve

- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message and warning symbol show in the display
