What does this fault code mean?
The fault is set when the signal from the EGR valve position sensor is too high, or when the PWM signal is incorrect. It may concern the wiring, the connectors, the position sensor or the EGR valve itself.
Possible causes
- Signal cable, or the wiring to the EGR valve or position sensor, short-circuited to supply voltage
- Sticking EGR valve
- Loose connection, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the wiring to the EGR valve or position sensor
- Damaged position sensor or damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Read the fault status with a diagnostic tool if you have one, and see whether the fault is active after the engine has started
- 2Check the connectors to the position sensor and the EGR valve for looseness and oxidation
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve are not shorted to supply voltage and have no breaks
- 4Check that the EGR valve is not sticking from dirt or soot
- 5Check that the intake system does not leak and that the EGR valve is not blocked
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the position sensor and the EGR valve

- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message and warning symbol show in the display
