Applies to the following models:

Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named for the catalytic converter temperature sensor, the condition concerns the temperature sensor for the particle trap. The ECM sets the code when that sensor's signal is out of range: too high, too low, faulty or unreasonable. Testing happens with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Loose plugs, or poor contact with resistance or oxidation at the terminals
- Damaged particle trap temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the particle trap temperature sensor are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the sensor have no break
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the sensor's value with the engine running and see whether it seems reasonable
- 4Read and clear the fault code, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the particle trap temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect2
- An estimated temperature is used instead
- If the sensor is damaged, an unreasonable temperature may be displayed
