What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns the temperature sensor before the particle filter on bank 1 and is set when the signal from it is incorrect. The code is named for a low signal, and the car then uses a calculated temperature instead of the sensor reading.
Possible causes
- Fault codes ECM-P042700 and ECM-P042800 may share the same cause and should be read together
- Signal cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Signal cable short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Damaged particle filter temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and read the fault status with a diagnostic tool, if you have one
- 2Check that the connectors to the temperature sensor before the particle filter are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal cable has no break and is not short-circuited to ground or supply voltage
- 4Read and clear the fault code, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the temperature sensor before the particle filter
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car lacks power
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated temperature is used instead
- The car goes into limp-home mode
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
