ECM-P042B00 - Catalyst Temperature Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank1, Sensor Circuit 2). General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM keeps comparing the rear catalyst temperature sensor's reading with a calculated value. The fault is set when the signal is wrong, and The code applies to bank 1, sensor circuit 2.
Possible causes
- Loose connections
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit or short to ground in the wiring
- Damaged temperature sensor at the catalytic converter
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the rear temperature sensor are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the wiring to the sensor has no break and no short to ground (the body)
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the rear sensor value with the ignition on and see whether it seems reasonable
- 4Read and clear the fault code, then switch the ignition on again to see whether it returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the rear temperature sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
