What does this fault code mean?
The code states that the EGR valve has jammed in the closed position. The ECM compares the position sensor value with a desired value and sets the code when the valve does not move as it should.
Possible causes
- Leak in the fresh air part
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
- Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
- Ground cable open or shorted to supply voltage
- EGR valve sticks from dirt or soot
What you can do
- 1If you have a diagnostic tool, start the engine and read the fault status and the EGR valve position
- 2Check that the fresh air part does not let air in
- 3Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot if it is sticking
- 4Check that the connectors to the position sensor and the EGR valve are firmly seated
- 5Use a multimeter to see whether the ground cable to the EGR valve has a break or voltage on it
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EGR valve and the position sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- The engine does not start, at times that are unclear or all the time
- The idle is uneven
- The car performs poorly and lacks power
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect3
- EGR control is lost
- Burning of soot particles does not take place
- Engine torque is limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
