What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the sealing of the fuel system by pressurising the tank system with the leak diagnosis unit. The code is set when the pressure does not build up within a reasonable time, which is read as a small leak in the system.
Possible causes
- Leaking tank, filler pipe, filler cap, canister, EVAP valve or the lines between these parts
- The filler cap is loose or not tightened properly
What you can do
- 1Check that the filler cap is in place and properly tightened
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, start the quick test of the tank system with the ignition on and follow the instructions it shows
- 3Look for leaks at the filler cap, the filler pipe and the hoses to the canister
- 4Check that the canister and the EVAP valve are not damaged
- 5For model year 2007 to 2008, a workshop should check the control module software before leak fault-tracing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) light comes on or behaves abnormally
