What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the control of the EVAP valve, which the ECM uses to regulate the purging of fuel vapour. The fault is set if the signal from the EVAP valve is missing or if the control to the valve is faulty.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal cable
- Damaged EVAP valve
- Contact resistance in the connections
- Open circuit in the power cable
- Signal cable shorted to ground or to supply voltage
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the circuit
- 2Check that the connectors to the EVAP valve are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and power wires to the EVAP valve have no break
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground or supply voltage
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EVAP valve and the control module

- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
