What does this fault code mean?
The fault concerns an open circuit to the EVAP valve. The ECM sets the code when it detects a break in the signal wire between the control module and the valve, or when the signal from the valve is too high.
Possible causes
- Signal cable shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged EVAP valve
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Open circuit in the signal cable
What you can do
- 1A workshop should measure the resistance of the EVAP valve, since it needs proper equipment
- 2Check that the connectors to the EVAP valve are firmly seated and not oxidised
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire running from the control module to the EVAP valve is unbroken
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, run the quick test on the EVAP valve and see whether it responds
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the EVAP valve and its control
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is lit
- A fuel smell is noticed
What the fault can affect2
- Control with two oxygen sensors is blocked
- Fuel trim is blocked
