What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns an electrical fault where the voltage in the circuit to the EGR valve is below the threshold. The ECM watches the signal from its internal power stage and tests it while the engine runs. The code does not indicate which cause applies.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Sticking EGR valve
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, inspect the intake side for leaks and damage
- 2Make sure the EGR valve is free from blockage and soot, and clean it if needed
- 3Check that the connectors to the EGR valve are secure and remedy any loose or oxidised connections
- 4With a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve. It should click and not bind; if the position sensor value stays still after cleaning, the valve is probably damaged
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve are not short-circuited to ground, to supply voltage or to each other
- 6Replace a damaged EGR valve, have a workshop adapt it and clear the code. Road test afterwards
