What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns an internal system fault where an excessively high temperature has been registered in the control linked to the EGR valve. The ECM watches the signal from its internal power stage and tests it while the engine runs. The fault may be caused by contact problems, a sticking or damaged EGR valve, or a damaged position sensor.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Sticking EGR valve
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, inspect the intake side for leaks and damage
- 2Make sure the EGR valve is free from blockage and soot, and clean away the soot
- 3Use a multimeter to check that no wire to the EGR valve is short-circuited to ground, to supply voltage or to another wire
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and see whether it moves without binding, and whether the position sensor value changes
- 5Check that the connectors are secure and not oxidised
- 6After replacing the EGR valve, a workshop adapts it. Clear the code and road test
