What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that the signal wire to the EGR valve is short-circuited to ground. The ECM watches the signal from its internal power stage and tests it while the engine runs. The causes are contact problems, a damaged position sensor or a damaged EGR valve.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1With the ignition switched off, look over the intake system for leaks and damage
- 2Make sure the EGR valve is free from blockage and soot, and clean away dirt as needed
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not short-circuited to ground. Also check that it is not short-circuited to supply voltage or to other wires
- 4Check the connectors to the EGR valve for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy them if needed
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and see whether it moves freely and whether the position sensor value follows
- 6Replace a damaged EGR valve, have a workshop adapt it and clear the code. Road test afterwards
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- There is no EGR control
