What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that the signal wire to the EGR valve is short-circuited to supply voltage. The ECM watches the signal from its internal power stage and tests it while the engine runs. The causes are a short to supply voltage, a damaged position sensor or a damaged EGR valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors to the EGR valve are secure and free from oxidation
- 2Look for chafing or pinch damage on the signal wire between the engine control module and the EGR valve
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage, meaning it is not short-circuited to the battery positive
- 4Activate the EGR valve with the diagnostic tool. It should click and the position sensor value should follow. If the value stays still even after cleaning, the valve is probably faulty
- 5Replace a damaged EGR valve and have a workshop carry out the adaptation
- 6Clear the code and road test. If the fault remains, have a workshop check the wire and the position sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No symptoms are noticed by the driver
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust gas recirculation is not controlled
