What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the pump part of the fuel level sensor. The central electronic module (CEM) registers it first and passes the fault on to the ECM, where the code is also set. The code may be a secondary fault: remedy the CEM fault first, then the code can be cleared. It is general and does not specify the kind of fault.
Possible causes
- The cause lies in the central electronic module (CEM)
- Damaged fuel level sensor
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first and remedy them. This code can then be cleared
- 2Gently rock the vehicle and check that the fuel gauge moves and then settles at a reasonable level. If the tank is completely full, the change may not be clear
- 3Inspect the fuel level sensor plug and its joins for contact resistance and oxidation, and fix as needed.
- 4With a diagnostic tool, read the fuel level via the CEM. If it stays unreasonable the fault is still present; if reasonable right now, it is not active
- 5If the fuel pump with its sensor is suspected to be faulty, have a workshop replace it
- 6Clear the code only after the fault in the CEM has been remedied, then road test
Symptoms you may notice2
- The fuel gauge shows an error or too low a value
- The engine warning lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
