What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the position sensor of the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve, where the signal is below the allowable range. The engine control module (ECM) compares the sensor value with a calculated setpoint, and the code is set when they do not match.
Possible causes
- Damaged position sensor
- The EGR valve is stuck
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, inspect the intake side for leaks and damage
- 2Look at whether the EGR valve is blocked or sooted up, and clean it of dirt and soot if needed
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the position sensor are not open-circuited or short-circuited to ground, supply voltage or each other
- 4With a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and check it clicks without binding. If the position sensor value stays still after cleaning, the valve is likely faulty
- 5After replacing the EGR valve or position sensor, a workshop must carry out an adaptation. Clear the code and road test
