What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the position sensor of the EGR valve, where the signal is above the allowable range. The engine control module (ECM) compares the sensor value with a calculated setpoint, and the code is set when they do not agree.
Possible causes
- The position sensor is damaged
- The EGR valve is sticking or stuck
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, inspect the intake side for leaks and damage
- 2Look for a blocked EGR valve, and clean it of soot and dirt if needed
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires are not short-circuited to supply voltage, to ground or to each other
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and check that it does not stick. If the position sensor value stays unchanged after cleaning, the valve is probably damaged
- 5After a repair an adaptation of the EGR valve is carried out, which a workshop does. Clear the code and road test
