What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that the signal wire between the engine control module (ECM) and the electric fan control module is short-circuited to ground, because the voltage on the wire is too low. This can lead to poorer engine cooling and a climate control that does not work.
Possible causes
- The signal wire between the ECM and the electric fan control module is short-circuited to ground
- Damaged electric fan control module
- Damaged engine control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the cooling fan are intact, using the owner's manual
- 2Look for chafing or pinch damage on the signal wire between the engine control module and the electric fan control module
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not short-circuited to ground
- 4Check that the connectors in the signal wire are secure and free from oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running. After repair the fault status should show no fault once the diagnosis is complete
- 6If the fault remains despite these checks, have a workshop check the electric fan control module and the engine control module
