What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns an electrical fault where the voltage on the signal wire between the engine control module (ECM) and the electric fan control module is too high, meaning it is short-circuited to battery voltage. The ECM monitors the fan continuously, and the fault can lead to poorer engine cooling or a climate control that does not work.
Possible causes
- Short to supply voltage in the signal wire between the ECM and the electric fan control module
- The electric fan control module is damaged
- The engine control module (ECM) is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses for the fan are intact. Their locations are shown in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2Follow the signal wire between the engine control module and the fan control module and look for chafing or pinch damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with supply voltage
- 4Inspect the connectors in the signal wire for loose contacts and oxidation
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault code's diagnostic status and fault status. After repair the fault status should show no fault once the diagnosis is complete
- 6If the fault remains although the wiring is sound, have a workshop check the fan control module and the engine control module
