What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that the message from the electric fan control module to the engine control module (ECM) is missing or incorrect, so the ECM cannot control the fan. It is an electrical fault with an open circuit, and
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire between the ECM and the fan control module
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in wires and connections
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Damaged electric fan control module
What you can do
- 1Start by checking the fuses for the electric fan and their locations in the owner's manual
- 2Look for broken or loose connectors on the signal wire between the engine control module and the fan control module
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is continuous at both ends, meaning it has no open circuit
- 4Check the connector terminals in the wire for contact resistance and oxidation, and remedy as needed
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault code's status, and after repair check that the fault status shows no fault once the diagnosis is complete
- 6If the wires are sound but the fault remains, a workshop needs to examine both control modules
