What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that the electric fan or its control is overheated. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the fan function continuously and tests it while the engine runs. The causes may be that the driver circuit in the engine control module has become too hot, high temperature in the engine bay or a damaged electric fan control module.
Possible causes
- The driver circuit in the engine control module overheats because of a low resistance to the battery, but it is not fully short-circuited
- High temperature in the engine bay
- Damaged electric fan control module
What you can do
- 1With the ignition off, check that nothing blocks the fan blades and that the fan turns freely
- 2Check the fuses for the cooling fan. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running to see whether the fault is active
- 4If the fault returns, have a workshop check the fan control and the electric fan control module
- 5After repair the fault status should show no fault once the diagnosis is complete. Check this with a diagnostic tool
- 6Clear the fault code once the fault has been remedied, and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine may run hot
