What does this fault code mean?
The electric fan control module reports an internal component fault, which the engine control module (ECM) receives over the signal wire. The code is set when the internal fault is reported, and the cause may be a damaged fan control module but also faults in connections or the supply.
Possible causes
- An internal fault in the electric fan control module
- Poor connections with looseness, contact resistance or oxidation
- Break in the power feed to the electric fan
- A connector not fitted on an electric fan with two control modules
- Fault codes ECM-P048086 or ECM-P048087 can cause this code, so check them first
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module, since the fault code can only be read there
- 2Look for looseness in the connectors to the electric fan and remedy as needed
- 3Measure the supply to the electric fan with a multimeter. It should have no break
- 4Check the fuses for the electric fan
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is still active
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop replace or examine the electric fan control module
