What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) has received an indication that the electric fan is blocked or damaged, and the code is set at that point. The fault concerns the fan or fan motor, which does not move freely.
Possible causes
- Blocked or binding fan or fan motor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the contacts between the fan control module and the fan motor
What you can do
- 1Switch off the engine, let it cool and check that the fan is not blocked and can turn freely
- 2Look at the contacts between the fan control module and the fan motor, and remedy looseness or oxidation as needed
- 3Check the fuses for the electric fan. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the ignition on and see whether the fault is still active
- 5If the fault remains once the fan turns freely, have a workshop check the fan motor
- 6Clear the fault code only once the fault has been remedied, and road test
Symptoms you may notice3
- Temperature becomes uneven
- The engine overheats or runs hot
- Temperature control or air conditioning does not work
