What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) uses the information from the electric fan control module to control the fan speed and when the fan switches on and off. The code is set when the message from the fan control module is missing, and it is tested with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a break in the connections
- Damaged electric fan control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the connectors in the connections to the electric fan control module are secure and free from oxidation
- 2Look for breaks in the wires between the engine control module and the fan control module, or for chafing and pinch damage
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is active right now
- 4If the connections are sound and the fault remains, have a workshop check the electric fan control module
- 5Clear the fault code only once the fault has been remedied, and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine temperature gauge reads at its maximum
