What does this fault code mean?
The electric fan control module's message to the engine control module (ECM) shows that an internal fault has arisen in the fan control module. The ECM uses the information to control the fan speed and when the fan switches on and off, and the code is tested with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Damaged electric fan control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code from the engine control module, since it is the only place it can be read
- 2Look at the connectors to the electric fan control module to see that they are seated properly
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the fault status with the engine running and see whether the fault is still active
- 4Because the fault lies in the fan control module itself, have a workshop replace or check it if the fault remains
- 5After replacement or repair, check that the fault status shows no fault once the diagnosis is complete
- 6Clear the fault code only once the fault has been remedied, and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine temperature gauge reads at its maximum
