What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns circuit A of the exhaust gas recirculation control, which is open. The engine control module (ECM) monitors exhaust gas recirculation continuously, and the fault is checked with the engine running. The code is general and does not specify what kind of fault it is.
Possible causes
- Open circuit or short to ground in the signal wire
- Open circuit in the ground wire
- Open circuit or short to ground in the supply wire
- Open circuit or short to ground in the wires to the EGR valve motor

What you can do

- 2With the ignition off, inspect the intake system for leaks and damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve have no break and are not short-circuited to ground
- 4Clean the EGR valve of soot if it is clogged, and check that it does not bind
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and see whether the position sensor value changes
- 6After replacement or repair, a workshop adapts the EGR valve. Clear the code and road test
