What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns circuit A of the exhaust gas recirculation control, where the signal is outside its range or the performance deviates. The engine control module (ECM) monitors exhaust gas recirculation and checks it with the engine running. The general code does not specify which fault it is.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is open or short-circuited to ground
- The ground wire is open
- The supply wire is open or shorted to ground
- The wires to the EGR valve motor are open or shorted to ground
- The EGR valve is damaged
What you can do
- 1Start with the fuses. Their location is given in the owner's manual or on the fuse box cover
- 2With the ignition off, inspect the intake side for leaks and damage
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve are intact and not touching ground
- 4Make sure the EGR valve is not sooted up, and clean it if needed
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and check whether the position sensor value follows
- 6After replacement or repair, a workshop must adapt the EGR valve. Clear the code and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
