What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns an electrical fault where the signal wire to the EGR valve is short-circuited to ground, giving too low a signal. Its internal power stage drives the EGR motor, and the ECM checks that signal while the engine runs.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Damaged position sensor
- Damaged EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Look at the connectors to the EGR valve: they should be secure and clean
- 2Look for chafing or pinch damage on the signal wire to the EGR valve
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not short-circuited to ground (the body)
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and check that it moves without binding and that the position sensor value changes
- 5Replace a damaged EGR valve, have a workshop adapt it and clear the code. Road test afterwards
