What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the EGR valve control circuit, where the signal is too high. The engine control module (ECM) monitors both the function of the valve and the signal from its internal power stage, and the code does not specify what kind of fault it is.
Possible causes
- The signal wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
- Damaged position sensor or damaged EGR valve
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- The EGR valve sticks, for example because of dirt or soot
- Break in the supply or ground wire
- The supply wire is short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Check the fuses for the EGR system. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 2Look for chafing or pinch damage on the signal wire, and check that the connectors are secure
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire and the supply wire have no contact with supply voltage
- 4Clean the EGR valve if it is sooty, and check that it does not bind
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the position sensor value with the engine running and see whether it is unreasonable
- 6Replace a damaged EGR valve and have a workshop adapt it. Clear the code and road test
Symptoms you may notice2
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
- A text message appears on the display
What the fault can affect1
- EGR control is lost
