What does this fault code mean?
This is an event-driven information code, and it does not indicate a fault in the engine control module. The engine control module (ECM) sets the code when the electric fan performance is too low while the coolant temperature is above a certain level. The code does not need to be cleared, because it disappears when the conditions no longer apply.
Possible causes
- There is no separate fault behind this code that needs to be remedied
What you can do
- 1Check that the engine is not overheating, since the code is linked to the coolant temperature
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, read the electric fan performance and the coolant temperature with the engine running
- 3Check that the fuses for the cooling fan are intact. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 4With the ignition off, check that nothing blocks the fan blades
- 5Do not clear the code separately. It disappears when the conditions no longer apply
- 6If the code remains although the engine is not hot, have a workshop check the electric fan
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine may overheat or run hot
