What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the flow through exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), which may be clogged or damaged. The engine control module (ECM) monitors the EGR function continuously and sets the code when the signal to and from the EGR valve is faulty. The code does not specify what kind of fault it is.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve is clogged or blocked
- The EGR valve is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 2With the ignition off, inspect the intake system for leaks and damage
- 3Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot, and check that the connections are not clogged
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and see whether the position sensor value changes. If it stays still after cleaning, the valve is probably damaged
- 5After replacement or repair, a workshop adapts the EGR valve. Clear the code and road test
