Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates that too little exhaust gas is being recirculated through the EGR system, meaning exhaust gas recirculation is not working as it should. The engine control module (ECM) monitors EGR control and sets the code when a fault is found in the EGR valve or its wiring.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve sticks because of dirt or soot
- The EGR valve is damaged
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 2Clean the EGR valve of dirt and soot so that it can move freely
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and check that it does not bind
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the EGR valve have no break or short circuits
- 5Replace a damaged EGR valve, have a workshop adapt it, and clear the code
- 6After the work, road test and check that the car runs smoothly
Symptoms you may notice3
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away
- The car hesitates, surges or runs jerkily during acceleration, deceleration or steady speed
- A text message appears on the display
What the fault can affect1
