What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns EGR control in closed loop, where the actual flow through the EGR system stays below the requested flow for too long. The engine control module (ECM) compares the two values and sets the code when the difference becomes too large for too long in total.
Possible causes
- The EGR valve is clogged
- The signal wire is short-circuited to ground
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 2With the ignition off, inspect the intake system for leaks and damage
- 3Clean the EGR valve and check that it and its connections are not clogged with soot
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not short-circuited to ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the EGR valve and see whether the position sensor value changes
- 6After repair, a workshop adapts the EGR valve. Clear the code and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The check engine lamp comes on or behaves abnormally
