What does this fault code mean?
The code indicates an internal system fault where the checksum of the speed signal does not match. The brake control module (BCM) registers the fault, passes it on to the engine control module (ECM) and also stores a fault code of its own. The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may light up.
Possible causes
- Faulty speed input to the brake control module (BCM)
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the brake control module with a diagnostic tool, and remedy them first
- 2Check that the battery voltage is good and that the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the owner's manual
- 3Check that the speedometer works normally during a test drive
- 4The brake system is safety-critical: have a workshop check the wheel sensors, the wiring and the brake control module. Do not work on the brakes yourself
- 5Clear the fault code once the fault has been remedied, and road test
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
What the fault can affect1
- the brake module speed signal is replaced by a fixed value
