What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) calculates the car's acceleration from the speed signal that the brake control module (BCM) sends over the CAN network. The code is set when the change in acceleration is not plausible while cruise control is active, and cruise control is switched off while the fault is active. The code can only be confirmed with cruise control on. The fault is intermittent, so it may not be present right now.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance, corrosion or a break in connections
    • Fault on the CAN network
    • Faulty speed sensor
    • Faulty brake control module (BCM)
    • Faulty engine control module (ECM)

    What you can do

    1. 1With the ignition on, read the code and check whether it is still active
    2. 2Check that the fuses are intact
    3. 3Road test with cruise control: switch it on and check whether it engages and holds speed. If it works normally, the fault may be intermittent or not present right now
    4. 4If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the speed value in live data and check that it changes smoothly when the car accelerates and brakes
    5. 5Check the connections in the CAN network between the BCM and the ECM for loose, corroded or chafed areas
    6. 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the CAN network and the BCM. Do not work on the brake control module yourself

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • Cruise control does not engage

    What the fault can affect1

    • Cruise control is switched off while the fault is active

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
