What does this fault code mean?
When the brake control module (BCM) detects a fault in the speed signal, it sends a fault message to the engine control module (ECM), which then sets the code. The message carrying the speed value on the CAN network is missing. The code is also stored in the BCM, and diagnosis is carried out there. The fault is intermittent.
Possible causes
- Incorrect speed information sent on to the BCM
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the brake control module and the engine control module and note which are stored
- 2Diagnose the fault in the brake control module. Repair it there, then clear the code in the engine control module
- 3Check that the connectors to the brake control module are secure and free from corrosion, and that the wiring is not chafed
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check whether the speed value from the brake control module is missing from live data while the car is rolling
- 5Road test the car and see whether the code returns once the fault is repaired
- 6Do not work on the brake control module yourself; have a workshop carry out the checks that need diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not engage
- Cruise control does not hold the set speed and disengages
- Autostart does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The speed value from the brake control module is replaced by a default value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
