What does this fault code mean?
During a cold start the engine control module (ECM) raises the idle speed to warm up the catalytic converter. The code is set when the actual idle speed stays below the limit for a set time, that is, when the idle does not reach the speed the module requests. A blocked intake or exhaust system may be the cause.

What you can do
- 1At low and unsteady idle speed: check that the intake and exhaust systems are not blocked
- 2Check that the air intake is free from dirt, debris and other objects that could restrict airflow
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the idle speed in live data with the engine idling and see whether it is steady
- 4Clear the code and road test the car, or let the engine idle and see whether the code returns
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the idle control
