What does this fault code mean?
On a cold start the ECM raises the idle speed to warm the catalytic converter up to working temperature. The code is set when the actual idle speed stays above the limit for a set time, that is, when the idle is higher than the module requests. An air leak in the intake system may be the cause.
Possible causes
- Air leak in the intake system
What you can do
- 1At high and unsteady idle speed: check that the intake system does not leak and that the hoses and connections are undamaged
- 2Note whether the high idle is present when the engine is cold or also when it is warm. A higher idle during warm-up is intentional
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the idle speed in live data during warm-up and see how it changes as the engine heats up
- 4Clear the code and road test the car, or let the engine cool and start it again to see whether the code returns
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the intake system for leaks
Symptoms you may notice2
- The eco lamp is on
- High idle, either sometimes or all the time
