What does this fault code mean?

The ECM monitors the oil pressure with a combined sensor for oil pressure and oil temperature. With the ignition on, the oil pressure is compared with the ambient pressure and the boost pressure, and with the engine running the code is set if the difference becomes too large. The signal stays constantly low, so the fault lies in the sensor or in the connections.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance or oxidation in connections
    • Oil pressure and oil temperature sensor is damaged

    What you can do

    1. 1Check the connector to the oil pressure and oil temperature sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
    2. 2Check that the fuses are intact
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil pressure in live data with the engine running and see whether the value stays at the same low level all the time
    4. 4Use a multimeter to check the sensor wire for a break or a short to ground or supply voltage
    5. 5If the connector and wire are in order but the value is wrong, the sensor is probably damaged and needs replacing
    6. 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the sensor and its signal

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
