What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the oil pressure with the combined oil pressure and oil temperature sensor and compares it continuously with the lowest permitted value. The code is set when the oil pressure is too low while the starter motor is turning the engine. The fault may be caused by too low an oil level, a leak inside or outside the engine, or a worn oil pump.
Possible causes
- Oil level too low
- Internal oil leak in the engine
- External oil leak outside the engine
- Oil pump broken or worn
What you can do
- 1Check the oil level with the dipstick while the engine is stopped and top up if it is low
- 2Look for oil leaks under the engine and on its outer parts, and repair any leak you find
- 3If the oil level is correct and no leak is visible, the fault may lie in the oil pump or in the engine. Have a workshop check this
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the oil pressure in live data while the starter motor is turning the engine and check that the value rises
- 5Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the oil pump and whether there is an internal oil leak
Symptoms you may notice2
- The oil pressure warning lights up or behaves abnormally
- Warning symbol and message in the display
