What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks that it has the information the cruise control needs. The code is set when information from the steering wheel cruise control buttons is missing, or when the car accelerates too hard when starting from low speed. The cause may lie in control modules that send signals over the CAN network, in the CAN wires, or in their connections.
Possible causes
- Diagnose the cause in the steering angle sensor module (SAS)
- Diagnose the cause in the brake control module (BCM)
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- Loose connections or contact resistance in the connections to the CAN network
- Diagnose the cause in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read the codes in the central electronic module (CEM) and the brake control module (BCM) and repair them first
- 2Check that the connectors in the CAN network are secure and free from corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires are not shorted to each other or to ground
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check in live data that the signal from the steering wheel buttons appears when you press them
- 5Once the codes are repaired, road test with cruise control and see whether it engages
- 6Do not work on the steering or braking systems yourself; have a workshop check the steering angle sensor and the brake control module with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- Cruise control is switched off for as long as the fault is active
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
