What does this fault code mean?
This code concerns the camshaft position during catalyst warm-up after a cold start, on bank 1. It is set when the camshaft angle is less than requested. Poor engine oil, low oil pressure, or a fault in the control valve or the VVT unit may be behind it.
Possible causes
- Poor engine oil quality
- Low oil pressure
- Damaged camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1If a fault code for the correlation between crankshaft and camshaft position is stored, diagnose it first. Contaminants in the oil can damage the VVT unit
- 2Check that the engine oil is clean and of the right quality
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the camshaft position in live data while the car is running steadily and check that it follows the requested position
- 4Clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 5If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the camshaft control valve and the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Uneven idle
- Reduced performance
- The eco lamp is on
- The check engine lamp lights or behaves abnormally
- The car hesitates or surges, or runs unevenly
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
