Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), XC90 (2003–)
Show models by year and engine (6)
What does this fault code mean?
On bank 2 this code is set when, during warm-up after a cold start, the camshaft stands further back than the requested position. Poor oil quality, low oil pressure, and a fault in the control valve or the VVT unit may be behind it.
Possible causes
- Poor engine oil quality
- Low oil pressure
- Damaged camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1If a fault code for the correlation between crankshaft and camshaft position is stored, diagnose it first
- 2Check the quality of the engine oil and look for contamination in it
- 3Have a workshop check the engine oil pressure
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the camshaft position for bank 2 in live data during warm-up and compare it with the requested position
- 5Clear the code and road test the car with the engine cold to see whether it returns
- 6If the code returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control valve and the VVT unit on bank 2
Symptoms you may notice3
- Uneven idle
- Reduced performance
- The eco lamp is on
