What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the pressure in the A/C system. The code is set when the high-side sensor gives a faulty reading, or when the pressure does not rise for a set time after the A/C compressor has been engaged. The signal may be erratic, implausible or stuck. The fault may lie in the wiring, the connectors or the sensor.
Possible causes
- Damaged A/C pressure sensor
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage, giving too high a signal
- Supply wire to the sensor shorted to battery voltage
- Signal wire shorted to ground, giving too low a signal
- Break or short to ground in the supply wire
- Break in the signal wire or the ground wire
What you can do
- 1With the engine running and the A/C on, listen for the compressor engaging and check whether cold air comes out
- 2Check the A/C pressure sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3Check that the A/C system has enough refrigerant and that there is no leak
- 4Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the A/C pressure sensor have no break or short to ground
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, read the A/C pressure in live data with the engine running and check whether the value rises after the compressor engages
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the pressure sensor and the atmospheric pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice4
- No cooling from the A/C system
- The air conditioning does not work
- The air conditioning does not cool enough in the front or rear area
- The air conditioning cools slowly in the rear area
What the fault can affect3
- The A/C pressure sensor is switched off
- No replacement value is used for the A/C pressure
- The A/C compressor is switched off
