ECM-P053500 - A/C Evaporator Temperature Sensor Circuit. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The ECM follows the evaporator temperature in the A/C system, which it receives from the climate control module (CCM) over the CAN network. The code is set when the ECM no longer receives an evaporator temperature from that module. The cause may be a faulty evaporator temperature sensor or a CAN communication problem between the ECM and the climate control module.
Possible causes
- Evaporator temperature sensor not working
- CAN communication between the ECM and the climate control module (CCM) is faulty
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connections in the CAN network between the engine control module and the climate control module for loose connections and corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the CAN wires have no break
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the evaporator temperature in live data with the ignition on and check whether the value appears
- 5Clear the code and start the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the evaporator sensor and the CAN communication
Symptoms you may notice3
- The air conditioning does not work
- The air conditioning is not cold enough in the rear area
- The air conditioning cools slowly in the rear area
What the fault can affect1
- The air conditioning is switched off
